System Reconstruction and Analysis Using Interspike Intervals
نویسنده
چکیده
Statistical measures of determinism for spikes train are described and analyzed. The analysis is focused on two dynamical invariants: nonlinear forecastability and correlation dimension. Two simple, generic, biologically motivated methods for generating spikes from the system are surveyed: an integrate-and-fire model (IF) and a threshold-crossing method (TC). The effect on the statistical measures of threshold level, noise and limited amount of available data are investigated.

Newborn EEG Seizure Detection Based on Interspike Space Distribution in the Time-Frequency Domain
This paper presents a new time-frequency based EEG seizure detection method. This method uses the distribution of interspike intervals as a criterion for discriminating between seizure and nonseizure activities. To detect spikes in the EEG, the signal is mapped into the time-frequency domain. The high instantaneous energy of spikes is reflected as a localized energy in time-frequency domain. Hi...
متن کاملReconstruction of Integrate-and-fire Dynamics
The fact that the geometry of state space can be reconstructed from a time series of observations has led to innovative prediction and control algorithms for chaotic systems. In this article we show that state reconstruction of integrate-and-re dynamics is possible from a series of interspike intervals. In particular, a chaotic spike train generated in this way can be predicted from its history...
متن کاملModel of spike propagation reliability along the myelinated axon corrupted by axonal intrinsic noise sources.
We investigated how selected electromorphological parameters of myelinated axons influence the preservation of interspike intervals when the propagation of action potentials is corrupted by axonal intrinsic noise. Hereby we tried to determine how the intrinsic axonal noise influences the performance of axons serving as carriers for temporal coding. The strategy of this coding supposes that inte...
متن کاملAre Neural Spike Trains Deterministically Chaotic or Stochastic Processes? the Dynamics of Spontaneous Neural Interspike Intervals
Before examining neural interspike intervals to see how they might encode information, an essential question that has first to be answered is whether, under the unstimulated condition, the apparent randomness of the neural firing paltern renects deterministic chaos or a stochastic process. Here, we use short term predictability and the structure of the prediction residual to determine the dynam...

In principle, the state space of a chaotic attractor can be partially or wholly reconstructed from interspike intervals recorded from experiment. Under certain conditions, the quality of a partial reconstruction, as measured by the spike train prediction error, can be increased by adding noise to the spike creation process. This phenomenon for chaotic systems is an analogue of stochastic resona...
